Information
Yealink phones have two methods for manual recording: on-demand recording during a call or automatic recording once a call is set up. The Yealink conference phone CP920 has additional support for recording when the phone is idle; this could help record an important discussion in the local conference room.
Recorded calls are saved in *.wav format onto a USB flash drive and will include a date & time stamp, and other information regarding the caller/callee's identifying information.
If the recording is created when the phone is idle, the file is saved with a keyword "idleREC".
Recorded calls can be played on either the phone itself or on a computer using an application capable of playing *.wav files.
Important Note: Before recording any call, especially those involving the PSTN, it is prudent to know the laws and restrictions of the place where you are. It may be that you need to notify each party that the call is being recorded before recording the conversation.
The Setup
The USB setup is fairly straight forward, Yealink phones support USB flash drives in FAT32 or NTFS (NTFS is not applicable to T43U/T42U/CP925/CP935W) format.
The Yealink phone must be configured to allow USB recording as well as configured options such as on-demand recording or automatic recording.

On-Demand Call Recording
Configuration
For on-demand call recording, the phone just needs one parameter configured:
features.usb_call_recording.enable="1"
Optionally, you can enable the recording tone to notify both parties that the call is starting the recording.
phone_setting.recorder_tone.enable="1"
Steps
Insert the USB drive into the phone.
Once the call is connected, the phone will have an additional option, Start REC, on the phone. Pressing this key will begin the audio recording onto the USB drive.
Once the call is recording you will see the recording notification in the top bar, and additional options will appear:
Stop REC - Stop recording the call and save to USB
Pause REC - Pause the recording to resume again later in the call.
End Call - The call will end, the recording will stop, and it will save the call to the USB drive
Automatic Call Recording
Configuration
For automatic call recording, two settings must be enabled:
features.usb_call_recording.enable="1"
features.auto_recording.enable="1"
Optionally, you can enable the recording tone to notify both parties that the call is starting the recording.
phone_setting.recorder_tone.enable="1"
Steps
Once the settings above are enabled, any inbound or outbound call will automatically start recording.
Once a call is sent or received you will see the recording notification in the top bar, and additional options will appear:
Stop REC - Stop recording the call and save to USB
Pause REC - Pause the recording to resume again later in the call.
End Call - The call will end, the recording will stop, and it will save the call to the USB drive
Listening to Recorded Calls
You can listen to the recorded calls from the phone itself. Navigate to the menu then:
- Select USB
- Select Browse Audio
- Locate the call
- Press Play
- Use additional options to Rewind, Fast Forward, or Pause
