ATAs are required to convert an IP signal to an analog signal and deliver it to a fax machine or other analog device.

Example FXE FX02P Installation

The WAN/PoE port on the FXE02P is designed to accept a network connection and allow the device to access the internet to register and connect to the fax server.
- Note: If POE is not available, you will need to use the 12v power supply to power the device.
The LAN port on the device is designed to passthrough the internet connection to an auxiliary device. This will allow the ATA to be installed close to a printer to share the ethernet connection if needed.
The ports labeled 1 and 2 are the analog ports. Each port will be assigned a specific fax number. Connect the correct fax machine to the correct analog port for the fax machine to receive on the configured number.
- Note: You may need to install the ATA and connect the analog ports inside the MDF/IDF if you're connecting faxes from different parts of the building into the same ATA.

Note: the WAN port is either labeled with an icon of a globe, or it may say "NET 1".

Note: Some ATA devices may only have one network port or more analog ports, but the concept is the same.
