Information
This article is for Reseller user scopes or higher.
A domain is a container in which an organization, company, or individual can manage their own PBX instance. The domain environment will house sites, users, hardware, phone numbers, call routing, logging, etc.
Creating a Domain
1. Navigate to the Domains tab
2. Click Add Domain
Domain Basic Details
After clicking on Add Domain you'll be presented with a pop-up window to create the domain.
- Name - Alphanumeric characters are allowed, some special characters are also allowed, however as a best practice is it best to avoid special characters as they can have an affect on certain features' functionality.
- It is important to make the domain name as simple as possible. It must also be unique among the entirety of the platform. The system will prompt you if there is a duplicate.
- Each user created within the domain will be assigned a login name that will contain the domain's name. e.g.
100@XYZCo
.
- Description - Use this field to add any additional account numbers, or identifying information. When searching for the domain later, it will also search this field.
- Reseller - This field will usually only have a single option, your own. If you have a higher scope on the system, you will likely always select CallRevu (it can be changed later if needed).
- Email Sender - This is the
From
email address for the PBX, it will spoof theFrom
address and does not need to be an actual email address.
The rest of the domain's basic tab may or may not be visible to you, usually you'll set it up as you see below.
When done, click Next.
Domain Defaults
On the defaults tab, enter the domain's preferred server defaults:
Dial Permission - Always set to US and Canada.
Timezone - Set this to the most common time zone for this domain.
Area Code - Set this to the most common area code for this domain.

Enable Voicemail - Enables or disables the voicemail box by default when a user is created on the system.

Domain Limitations
Your sale may have negotiated certain limitations with the customer or you may find yourself needing to limit a domain for other reasons.
For example, you can limit how many simultaneous calls the domain makes, how many users they create, how many call queues are utilized, etc.
Adjust the fields in the Limitations tab as necessary, then click Next.
Domain Emergency Caller ID Default
In the Emergency tab, the Emergency Caller ID field is used to determine the default e911 caller ID assigned to a user when they are created. Usually this is the main number.
Note: E911 configuration is currently handled at the carrier level by the CallRevu support staff. It is important to manage your users and use only configured e911 CID numbers.
Once complete, click Add.
Managing a Domain
- You cannot change the name of the domain once it is created. If an organization needs a new domain name, you must build their domain again in a newly created domain.
- If you need to edit an existing domain, changing the values of the fields will not update the already-built users on the system. For example, if you update the domain's default Caller ID, only new users created from that point forward will get the new configuration, old users will retain the old configuration.
- If you need to delete a domain, make sure all users, hardware, and phone number inventory are deleted first.
- If you find yourself needing to temporarily disable a domain use the domain Status field in the Basic tab. Change the drop-down option to Locked and click Save.
- Locking a domain will prevent all calls inbound or outbound.
